Regular physical activity, which helps regardless of whether you currently have symptoms. Knowing your risk factors and discussing them proactively, rather than waiting for pain to bring it up.

The patients I worry about most in this category are the ones who are sedentary specifically because of joint pain or deconditioning, not because they're already limited by their legs. Their inactivity is masking the exact symptom that would otherwise reveal the artery narrowing — so a low activity level someone assumes is unrelated is often the very reason PAD has gone unnoticed, not a coincidence sitting alongside it.
